We’re on Cheddar.com for the first time: it’s been called “CNBC for Millenials” and their 1.5MM followers on TikTok certainly reinforce that. Started by a former BuzzFeed exec, they cover all types of news, including environmental and climate news from their “Cheddar Climate” desk.

Cheddar called us and asked to do a *live* online broadcast with our CEO Brandon Alexander to talk about our vision for carbon-negative agriculture, and to discuss our recent funding round from Breakthrough Energy Ventures.

Click here (or the screengrab above) to watch the full 5:12 video, full of fantastic climate, agriculture, and robot Q&A, including discussion of how Iron Ox plans to put the $53MM ‘series C’ round of funding to good use.

A few key quotes from Brandon:

We’re in a late-stage climate crisis, and most people don’t realize that food production is one of the leading causes of global warming.”

How do we make agriculture carbon-negative? We’ve developed our own robotics, our own AI, and our own plant science to really remove waste at every point in the process…Food waste and water waste creates almost as many greenhouse gas emissions as all of transportation.”

We have to move all of agriculture to carbon-negative…At Iron Ox, it’s not just the robotics and the growing, it’s also the modeling and the plant science to understand what that plant needs.”

Big thanks to Hena Doba for the reporting!

We believe the best food is grown locally and recently. Our growing facilities use advanced robotics to cultivate perfect, nutritious produce by giving each plant the specific attention it needs, and then getting it on a store shelf nearby within about a day of harvest.
